The Embassy team and I appreciate your interest in our work and in German-Cypriot relations.

Cyprus is a sun-drenched island in the eastern Mediterranean. Many Germans come as holidaymakers, visit the historical and archaeological sites, and enjoy nature and the beaches. The 3000 or so Germans who live here are mainly business people or retirees. Others are married to Cypriots and live here with their families.

Political relations between Germany and Cyprus are good and amicable. As member states of the European Union, we are committed to this community of values and to the peaceful coexistence of people and nations. To this day, Cyprus is a divided country – with a Greek-Cypriot population group in the south and a Turkish-Cypriot population group in the north of the island. Therefore, promoting understanding and encounter between the two communities and supporting the efforts of the United Nations to solve the Cyprus problem are particularly important to me.

Our close relations at the political level are underpinned by many positive contacts at a personal level. Germany and Cyprus cooperate closely in the fields of culture, schools and universities, and more and more students from Cyprus are choosing to go to German universities. Ever more students from Germany are coming to Cyprus. Our doors are open for business, trade and companies – particularly in the fields of renewable energy and tourism, we want to cooperate even more closely.
